Hypatia Martinez Counseling
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Hypatia Martinez Counseling was created from a deep respect for the inner worlds people carry and the unseen labor of surviving.
Many people seek therapy not because something is “wrong” with them, but because something has been carried alone for too long.
I founded my practice on the belief that healing does not come from minimizing pain or pathologizing identity, but from being witnessed in a space that is emotionally safe, culturally aware, and grounded in compassion.
I serve individuals who are thoughtful, capable, and often deeply caring—and who may also feel anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, burned out, or tired of holding everything together.
Value and Ethics

My Ethical Commitments
My practice is guided by professional ethical standards and by a relational ethic of care.
I am committed to:
• Confidentiality and Privacy
• Professional Competence
• Clear and Respectful Boundaries
• Informed Consent
• Non-Discrimination
• Accountability and Repair
Core Values

Emotional Safety First
Therapy begins with safety. Emotional safety is not assumed—it is built through consistency, respect, pacing, consent, and attunement.

Integrity in Relationship
The therapeutic relationship is central. We hold it with seriousness, warmth, and ethical clarity.
This includes:
• consistent boundaries
• informed consent
• confidentiality
• and a commitment to repair when harm occurs
I believe trust is built not through perfection, but through honesty and responsibility

Whole-Person Care
We do not treat symptoms in isolation. We honor the emotional, relational, cultural, and historical realities that shape a person’s inner life.

Trauma-Informed & Nervous-System–Aware Practice
My practice operates from a trauma-informed framework that recognizes the impact of both acute and chronic stress, including relational and systemic trauma.
I aim not to override survival responses, but to understand and soften them.

Cultural Humility & Responsiveness
I am committed to culturally responsive care and ongoing humility. I work to understand each client’s cultural world, remain open to correction, and continually deepen our education and accountability

Empowerment,
Not Dependence
Therapy is not about creating reliance on the therapist. It is about strengthening self-trust, internal resources, emotional literacy, and relational capacity. Healing is not given. It is supported.
Services

Individual Therapy
I offer individual therapy for adults who want support reconnecting with themselves, making sense of what they carry, and building lives that feel more sustainable and honest.

People come to me when they are:

• Tired of functioning but not feeling
• Stuck in anxiety, sadness, or numbness
• Questioning who they are or who they’ve been allowed to be
• Burned out from holding everything together
• Wanting therapy that honors culture, creativity, and nervous-system care
My work integrates:
• Narrative Therapy
• Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
• Mindfulness
• Strengths-based therapy
• Trauma-informed care
These approaches help clients understand their emotional patterns, reconnect with themselves, and build practical tools for healing and change. I also incorporate creative and reflective practices, including storytelling and visualization, when helpful.

Payment and Insurance
Getting support shouldn't feel confusing or out of reach. I believe therapy should be accessible, transparent and practical for real life.

I currently accept the following insurance plans:

• Aetna
• Cigna
• Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield
• Carelon Behavioral Health
For those of you who prefer not to use insurance or out-of-network:

• Self pay sessions are $130 per session
• I can also provide a superbill upon request for possible out-of-network reimbursement
